Sridevi |
Sridevi on the sets of Laadla. 1994. Sridevi was once again nominated for Best Actress for the film and though the title role was meant for the lead actor Anil Kapoor, Sri completely commandeered the movie and is easily the most memorable character in the film.
The Indian-ised or perhaps a Bollywood-ised version of The Taming of the Shrew, in a factory setting, the ending made several feminists cringe as the powerful lead turned into a humble housewife but then, Bollywood isn't known for paving the way for feminism in Asia.
Now, behind the scenes, Sridevi did her bit. Often the highest paid star, having an equal if not larger role than her male counterparts, her firm "no" and "yes" to scripts, costumes, choreography and direction is legendary. More on that coming soon...
