Oddly, the most searched images on this blog are from the film Heer Ranjha - a huge box-office disaster but a much beloved, much retold tale of star-crossed lovers in Punjab. Sridevi looked gorgeous in the film and acted well but... it doesn't work for us. But then, there are some hardcore fans who still love it, for a generation of movie-goers, this is the version they remember of the classic tale.
We need to re-watch this and re-think on why it works for so many and yet it was pure box-office poison upon release. At a time when audiences filled the cinemas with 94% to 100% occupancy, Heer Ranjha was something like 23% back then, if we recollect correctly. The movie was written off from day one.
