Sridevi in Chaalbaaz - Queen of the Rain Song and dance sequence in Bollywood

Sridevi brought sensuality, humour and a cherubic sense of naughtiness to her rain songs. They weren't threatening or vulgar to Indian audience tastes and she never crossed lines of decency. Here on the sets of Chaalbaaz, Sri was very much in charge of her surroundings and having done several rain songs by 1989, brought a full comic slant to it.

Cleverly choreographed by Saroj Khan (who went on to win Best Choreography and Sri went on to win Best Actress), the steps suited the mood and style of the stars on screen. She gave the easier steps to famed non-dancer Sunny Deol and gave all the expressive moments to Sri.

Sridevi being good in a comedic song and dance routine is almost predictable - the bar of excellence set so high by none other than Sridevi herself.

Not only did she excel, she won one of her four Best Actress Awards - and the choreographer Saroj Khan got one too. There's an ease and humour to the routine she directed. Just such fun. Even Sunny Deol  - a notoriously awful dancer - moved well. It was very clever choreography in giving him only steps he could do and not impose complicated and intricate movements to the stiff muscle-man action star. Gliding through some of his steps to the beat, he was pretty damn good in fact.

Looking adorable as always, Sridevi.
