A remake of Himmatwala (1983) is being planned by TV comic/critic turned director Sajid Khan. Indeed, 29 years after the original, Ajay Devgan and Tamanaah will fill in the iconic shoes of Jeetendra and Sridevi. A wildly - many would say surprisingly - successful director with -office hits under his belt, Khan is remaking one of the kitschy-cool flicks of the '80s. A film, mostly credited for a few fun songs (chart-buster Nainon mein sapna leading the pack) and for igniting Sridevi's illustrious career in Bollywood after her first Hindi film, Solva Saawan, flopped a few months earlier in 1983.
No doubt, the remake will find a new, young audience but, the film that sparkles in Sridevi's career remains a nostalgic favourite of many. Many, who are already thumbing down the remake without seeing a frame of it.
We have our doubts on the merits of the upcoming film too... but have a secret hope that Sajid Khan will somehow, rope in the yester-year stars to make a cameo appearance. We wait. And we shall watch. Well, if Sri makes a cameo...
