Sridevi and The Kapoors: Sanjay Kapoor turns 60 today!

Sanjay Kapoor was born on October 17, 1965! He's only two years younger than Sridevi!! Sanjay Kapoor turns 60 today. Wow. Time really does fly by...  I remember getting the audio-tape of his first film from HMV! 

His much delayed debut, the painfully dull Prem (another Satish Kaushik fiasco) set the bar low. If ever a man was given innumerable opportunities... its the quixotic Kapoor, Sanjay. He landed films with Juhi Chawla, Madhuri Dixit (in his sole mega-hit Raja), Mamta Kulkarni, Shilpa Shetty, Tabu... the list is long. What's emerged from these decades on film; Sanjay Kapoor is unfailingly popular and well-liked within the industry, he works hard, appears on set on time, is cordial and respectful to his elders, and there's a warm camaraderie with his co-stars, male or female. Everything favoured him... except box-office. And luck. 

But the tides have slowly changed...

He's having a renaissance on OTT currently, but reality TV showed his obvious and underrated talent; his self effacing comedy. He's naturally very funny and the youngest of the Kapoor clan - Boney, Anil leading the way - Sanjay has the infamy of being the first to officially announce to the media, the tragic passing of Sridevi. Before that, it was speculative unbelieved gossip online. 

His potty-mouthed wife Maheep on that love-to-hate-watch show, Bollywood Wives has somehow emerged as a reality TV "star", after an aborted career in films. She's a blunt, uncensored truth-teller that makes others uncomfortable - but highly entertaining to (cringe) watch. Now their daughter is... trying. You can already tell the son's being groomed for film and the entertainment industry as well. Let's... see.

Watch the Tanmay Reacts to the reality show - and all the comedians stated that Sanjay Kapoor is the star by far - his one-liners were cracking up every viewer on the panel. Unscripted Sanjay Kapoor is funnier than any role he's every played. 

The Keeping up with the Kapoors would be an interesting watch... At age 60, Sanjay Kapoor finally has what he always wanted; an audience.

TBT: Maheep Kapoor with Sridevi back in 1998 - during Maheep's marriage functions with Sanjay Kapoor. Maheep and Sanjay married back in 9 December, 1998. 

Maheep was a model, a Miss India contestant (in 1993), she appeared in a few music videos and she was set to be launched in a Hindi film Shivam, with Panini Raajkumar (son of Indian legend Raaj Kumar) - but the film never took off. 

Post marriage and kids, she ,mostly stayed away from the limelight, but in 2020, Mrs Kapoor found fame on Netflix in the cringe-binge worthy reality TV show The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. 

Today, 29th April is her birthday and we wish the "moophat" Maheep a very happy birthday.

Thanks to the blisteringly awful cringe fest of a reality show, Maheep Kapoor is finally making news. Spearheading the Netflix show Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, her potty-mouth is making some people laugh, others left simply horrified. 

An altogether base take on how wives of Indian actors live, the only person that comes out well in the first - and hopefully last - season of the show is Neelam Kothari. 

Maheep Kapoor... well, she is funny, but the language and antics are shocking for the average Indian television viewer - explaining some of the terms to Indian aunties has been lol-tastic.

The temper and tantrums of Ms Maheep reminds us of the mini society scandal from way-back-when of 2009. When Maheep launched her line of jewellery, Sridevi posed for the jewellery brand, while she was on hiatus from films. This was long before English Vinglish, long after Kaun Sachcha Kaun Jhoota. The images were spectacular, and the photos went viral in the media and the nation heard of the company - in a country that's teeming with so many brands. 

Then, later that year, Sridevi walked the ramp for Queenie Dhody.... And Maheep, who was on social media, posted a rather cryptic dig and the Indian media implied that it was targeted at Sridevi. The truth never really got smoked out of the caves of innuendo as neither Maheep nor Sridevi ever spoke about it. 

After than mini ripple on social media, things seemed to go back to normal. Maheep and Sanjay Kapoor were at Sridevi's premiere for English Vinglish, the entire clan was seen together at family events with seemingly no issues. 

Guess it was a non issue... but the internet never forgets.

Sridevi attended the music launch of film Mirzya in Mumbai, India on September 13, 2016. With husband Boney Kapoor in tow. Although the event was meant to launch newcomers, all eyes were on this stunning actress who looked absolutely resplendent in a classic Sabyasachi salwaar. 

As yet another Kapoor progeny joins the Indian film industry, the entire clan turned out in full force to support newcomer Harshvardhan Kapoor, Sunita and Anil Kapoor's youngest and only son. 

Clearly there was a dress code as the entire family turned up in black and white ensembles.
