Celebrity photographer Dabboo Ratnani showcases rare outtakes from a Good House Keeping cover shoot with Sridevi and family

 

These amazing unpublished shots by Dabboo Ratnani of Sridevi Kapoor with her family - husband Boney Kapoor, eldest daughter Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor - are so incredible. 

The outtakes from their Nov 2010 Good Housekeeping cover shoot - you can see the original cover shoot and article in the archives here. 

Sridevi has graced the cover twice, once in 2007 and the other in 2010. Both times, Dabboo Ratnani - the ultimate Bollywood celebrity photographer - was called on for the glamorous shots.

We've had a few aggressive notes stating there's no need to mention that Srilatha is Sridevi's only sister or that Janhvi Kapoor is Sridevi's oldest daughter - it may be obvious and matter of fact to fans from India, but if anything we've learned over pandemic times at home, Sridevi's (and in essence Bollywood's) reach is far beyond borders. With her films on various online platforms, despite her passing years ago, there are new fans of the Indian actress discovering her and her infinite potential. Craving to know more about the elusive star that shed her mortal being. 

In November, at a dinner at FCC, a fan from Slovakia was informed that Sridevi - the lead actress of English Vinglish as she knew of her - had died at a young age and her face absolutely fell with genuine shock and sadness. 

Not sure Sridevi ever realised what she meant to so many on this planet.

Boney Kapoor, "Her [Sridevi's] priority is our children. She constantly checks with me about Arjun and Anshula (Boney's children from his first wife Mona). Even if we've had a late night, say till 3am, she'll get up at 6.30am, she'll check whether the girls have had breakfast and will walk them up to the gate as they leave for school. She's a devoted family person, whether its with my parents or our children. When I celebrated my 50th birthday, all my children were present..."

The photographer posted this rarely seen image on his social media accounts and its the outtake from a Good Housekeeping cover shoot she did years ago. It's one of the handful of shots Sridevi had on the mantle in her home too.

Sridevi and family with Gauri Shinde and R Balki: Kapoor's night out: Jan 2018

Sridevi, Boney Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor were snapped outside a popular restaurant in Mumbai. They were joined by filmmakers R Balki and Gauri Shinde as rumours swirl of a collaboration between the actress and the filmmakers.

Rumours in the blogsphere indicated that Sridevi and Gauri Shinde were planning to unite five years after the success of English Vinglish on another project. Sridevi indicated that a collaboration is in the offing when she shared a picture of Gauri and her, with a quote, ‘Coming Soon’ in the caption.

Alas, we'll never know what could have been as within the ensuing month, Sridevi passed away tragically.
