Shahrukh Khan's selfie with Sridevi: Behind the Scenes: BTS of SRK's film Zero

Rare pic: Shahrukh Khan gets a selfie with 'the' Sridevi. The image was taken in October 2017 - the film released in the summer of 2018.

Sridevi's gracious guest appearance, cameo really, in the home production of Shahrukh Khan was a return favour of sorts; Khan had done an extended guest appearance in Sridevi-led film Army back in 1996. As Khan had said then, he did the film just to work with the "living legend" in the 90s. A highly appreciated appearance in the wake of DDLJ, which was an unprecedented success at the box-office at the time.

The gorgeous stars - truly Bollywood icons - if only they had done one great film - perhaps under the baton of Yash Chopra - back then.

Bollywood's leading ladies' tribute to Charlie Chaplin: 43rd Death Anniversary of cine icon

On a more somber note, on this day in 1977, film legend Charlie Chaplin died. On December 25, 1977, Chaplin died on Christmas day in Vevey, Vaud (Switzerland). According to reports, he died of a stroke in his sleep at the age of 88. He was undoubtedly the most famous man alive on the planet... Well, his iconography as the homeless tramp certainly was.

We've seen many tributes to him over the years in different mediums around the globe - including a good take by Indian actresses Karishma Kapoor (for a magazine shoot for Filmfare in the early 90s), Dimple Kapadia (for Illustrated Weekly in the early 1980s) and Vidya Balan for a Filmfare cover shoot in June 2015.

As fun and on point as many of the shoots were, Sridevi set the benchmark for her 15-minute-act and nod to the icon in the film Mr.India in 1987.  Everything else pales in comparison - with all due respect to all the ladies who gave it a go

Postscript: legend has it, later in life, Charlie Chaplin himself appeared on a talent show, in a Charlie Chaplin lookalike contest - and lost. Now if its myth or verifiable truth is beyond our scope at the moment, but its fun to think about with a smile.

Update: Delnaaz Irani joins the list!

Sridevi on the sets of her final film. No. Not Mom.

The last time Sridevi appeared on a film set was on OCTOBER 2, 2017. On the sets of Zero with Shahrukh Khan, Karishma Kapoor, Alia Bhatt. These last few images seen above, where Sridevi looks so stunning with her co-stars. The biggest of Bollywood stars fanned out at Sridevi.

BTW Zero is now on Netflix for anyone who missed out on the original run. The first half is fun - all the way till the minute Sridevi appears. The last few reels are painful...

Karishma Kapoor's post on Sridevi's passing.

There are few actresses who were not fans of Sridevi. In fact can't think of any... can you?!

Update:

Karishma Kapoor's Shakti was Sridevi behind-the-scenes

Karisma Kapoor says she feels honoured having worked with veteran actress, the late great Sridevi in Shakti: The Power. The film featured Karishma opposite Sanjay Kapoor and with Nana Patekar in a pivotal role - a film produced by Sridevi.

Recalling working with her, Karisma took to Instagram and shared how Sridevi used to encourage her.

"Shakti. I was honoured to work in my favourite actress #Sridevi first production Sriji would encourage me and we would spend time between shots discussing my character on location," Karisma wrote.

Directed by Krishna Vamsi, Shakti revolves around the desperate efforts of a lone mother who tries her best to escape a far-flung feudalistic society with her young son. Shahrukh Khan had an extended guest-appearance in the film and Aishwarya Rai had a memorable cameo in the song Ishq Kamina

"It was a tough grueling shoot but I have such wonderful memories of the the entire cast and crew," Karisma added.

Karisma and Sridevi appeared together briefly in Shahrukh Khan's home production, Zero, which sadly ended up being Sridevi's final appearance in a Hindi film, before her untimely and tragic passing.

Sridevi's final on-screen appearance in Zero

At Sangam theatre the week of the film Zero's release, at an early morning show, the crowds gathered to grab their first look at the highly anticipated Shahrukh Khan extravaganza, they encountered a pleasant surprise as the first few reels appeared on screen. Shahrukh Khan opened the film with a tribute, "Your memory is a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure, Sridevi ji,"

As people mouthed out the words, the collective burst into applause, remembering the screen icon and her final appearance on film. With the passing of Sridevi - star of nearly 300 films in five languages - a chapter in Indian cinematic history closes forever.

RIP Sridevi.

All-star turnout at Adira Chopra's 2nd Birthday Bash: Yash Chopra's leading ladies turn out in mass; Sridevi, Rekha, Karishma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor

Adira Chopra - daughter of producer/director Aditya Chopra and actress Rani Mukherjee, had her second birthday over the weekend and a party was hosted by Rani for her first-born. The star-studded invitation list would be the envy of any media house. Among the many glitterati who turned up to celebrate the scion of Yash Raj, were the banner's greatest heroines; Sridevi, Rekha, Karishma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Raveena Tandon. Also among the glamazons were Shilpa Shetty and Karan Johar - who brought his surrogate twins Yash and Roohi. In fact, many stars brought their children as their plus one - Kareena brought her baby boy Taimur, Sridevi accompanied her youngest daughter Khushi and Shilpa brought her son too.

Conspicuously missing from all the pics released by all the stars who attended, the baby of the hour - Adira Chopra! Like her notoriously press-shy father, no images of the youngest Chopra were leaked online.

Shahrukh Khan posts pic with Karishma Kapoor, Sridevi and Alia Bhatt

If you carefully see the pic, every single person above is a fan of Sridevi and has professed so (go through our archives of Karishma Kapoor, Shahrukh Khan or Alia Bhatt for verified newsbyte). After declining to appear in Om Shanti Om in the celebrity filled title-song, Sridevi finally agreed to do a cameo in Shahrukh's upcoming film. Sridevi looks... as expected... stunning.

UPDATE: The film has been titled Zero - and will release on December 21, 2018. It will be the last appearance of Sridevi... in the history of Indian cinema. A glorious chapter of Bollywood closes with her demise. The grief is... beyond belief.

Shahrukh Khan posted on his official instagram account:

  • iamsrkSum nites the stars with u shine brighter than the ones in the sky. Thx ladies for ur graciousness beauty & love.

Sridevi's kiss for birthday boy Manish Malhotra: Designer turns 50 with a superstar's super kiss

Sridevi posts on her official instagram account:

  • sridevi.kapoorHappy Birthday to my dearest friend, thank you for always being there for me. You are the real shining star ❤️ love you, hope you conquer new heights this year and make us all even prouder than you already have.

Well at 50, he's hardly a 'boy', but designer to the stars Manish Malhotra got an early birthday present as the superstar, actress Sridevi, landed a smooch on his cheeky cheeks! Such a cute pic. He in fact, does look like a little boy here!

Manish turned 50 on Dec 5th and, like, Sri, looks decades younger.

The star-designer duo have had a long working history together. See the entire archive of collaborations between Manish Malhotra and Sridevi here.
