Sridevi, 25, and Jeetendra, 46, as a bride and groom in Sone Pe Suhaga in 1988. 

The last film with co-star Jeetendra, Sridevi ended a long and fruitful collab with one of her most frequent co-stars and friends with this hit Hindi film. 

By 1988, it didn't matter who was Sridevi's co-star was and as her sun rose and Jeetendra's light dimmed (a slew of ill-timed flop films), she went on to work with other actors and aligned herself with directors who focused on her role more than her male counterpart. 

Decades later, most of the films haven't aged well.. but the song and dance routines remain fun and frothy.

32 years of Sone Pe Suhaga: Bollywood all-star lineup in the 1980s: Sridevi, Poonam Dhilloon, Kimi Katkar, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Anil Kapoor

32 years ago, on 26 August 1988, Sone Pe Suhaga was released. One of the few multi-starrers Sridevi was in with Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Anil Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon and Kimi Katkar. 

Upon re-watch.... it is not a great movie, but it was the sixth biggest hit of 1988! 

Notably, it was the last time Jeetendra and Sridevi did a film together, ending a 16-film run that had more major hits than flops.

Sone Pe Suhaaga was most notable for being a major multi-starrer directed by K. Bapaiah and had music by Bappi Lahiri. Pictured here are Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Anil Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Sridevi and Kimi Katkar in the mahurat shot - which also, oddly enough, happened to be the last scene in the film! Getting all six stars together was a feat so as much as possible was shot within that one day!

From the film Sone Pe Suhaga (1988), Jeetendra and Sridevi. The last film Sridevi did with Jeetendra after several successful pairings on the big screen.

Released in the summer of 1988 (26 August 1988 to be exact), the eight biggest hit of 1988, Sridevi and Jeetendra's final film together culminated with a great signature blockbuster. 

Sensing the audience was getting tired of the pairing, after 16 films together, Sridevi went on to act with stars closer to her age (don't forget Jeetendra, despite looking age-defyingly fit, was 21 years her senior!). If Jeetendra was peeved that his discovery was no longer working with him, he never mentioned it in print. The two remained close - Jeetendra has given several interviews praising his co-star Sridevi - and were seen at a party not long before Sridevi  passed away so tragically and unexpecctedly. 

The films and memories live long...

The film had an all-star cast of the 1980s in Bollywood. They all lined up for director K.Bapaiah who, didn't particularly make great films, but he made box-office hits! 

The film was led by Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, Poonam Dhillon and Kimi Katkar in lead roles and with music composed by Bappi Lahiri.

The movie has... not aged well. But hey, a hit's a hit!
