Sridevi as a young bride in this thriller who discovers things about her husband that shocks her... and the audience!

An incredible film for Tamil fans.

Sridevi and Kamal Haasan in the classic Sigappu Rojakkal (1978)

Shot in just 30 days, when Sridevi was 15-16, this thriller was a surprise hit as a film on a serial killer with Tamil film industry's definitive leading man was unprecedented; an unheroic leading man. Kamal Haasan went on to win one of his many (many!) Best Actor awards. Sridevi was neglected yet again by the jury.

If you see this film and remember she was but a child, the performance is astounding. The cast of that notorious nepo film, bow your head in shame at the lack of your privileged ability after being silver spoon-fed and still failing...

Although, let's talk about failing up - nearly all of them still managed to land other jobs.

Shocking how many are working again, but.. expected.

Sridevi, 15, in the Tamil film Sigappu Rojakkal (1978). As the young bride of a serial killer, Sridevi's range as a teenager-the OG teen scream queen-is beyond compare. Esp as new gen seems to be lost and searching in movies, grasping at straws to make a scene work. Perhaps Sridevi had better mentors too, be it her able directors, co-stars like Kamal Haasan, and writers who explored the range of her vast capabilities.

Released 44 years ago today, the film revolves around Sridevi, who has the ability to predict future events and with her unique ability, she identifies several shocking events...

Sridevi's famous co-star Rajnikanth had one of his first major intro shots and songs - which thereafter became staple for all Thalivaa films.

Sridevi's performance was, as always, stellar.

43 years of Sigappu Rojakkal, a psychological thriller that shook the audience, critics and box-office back in 1978.

Kamal Haasan won, one of his many Best Actor awards for the film. Sridevi was nominated and didn't win - we have a separate (near-) rant about this trend in earlier post - yet again.
