The unrequited love of Laurent and Shashi: The world is mesmerised by what could have been with Sridevi and Mehdi Nebbou

Mehdi Nebbou's performance as Laurent, in love with Sridevi (and why wouldn't he?!) elicits a collective sigh online - and we hear it often from fans.

Our fav bit in the movie was of course when Rama tells him 'This openly line-marrowing is not done'.

And thank God the movie pulled back just at the right bit and it wasn't a desi version of how Shashi got her groove back! 

However, most - and I have to state mostly western - gaze has been constant - why didn't she leave her husband for her French lover? Aside from what a cliché it would have been, the writer knew better.
