The year was 1986, Sridevi's first (and last) film with showman Subash Ghai and the model turned actor Jackie Shroff. Though Karma was the biggest hit of the year, the producer/director Ghai and the superstar Sri never worked together ever again.
Sridevi was shy and reticent, Ghai is famously boisterous - somehow they just didn't click.
Sri also famously didn't like being in a multi-star cast film where she was lost in the crowd - its been alleged by print mags of that time, she felt she was wasted in a role that could have been done by anyone.
But who knows? After the release of English Vinglish, Ghai praised Sri's performance to the skies repeatedly in several interviews. Sridevi also appeared at Ghai's Whistling Woods Studio to meet the students. Guess they did bury the hatchet after two decades.
