Eight years older than Sridevi, by the time the two had met, Sridevi was already a star. Boney Kapoor had seen Sridevi's Tamil and Telugu films and mesmerised by her performances, he signed her for a film in 1984 called Govinda with a very tan Anil Kapoor! The movie got shelved and they went on to make Mr. India instead.
Professionally, Kapoor produced four films with Sridevi starting with Mr. India (1987, followed by Roop ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993), Judaai (1997) and Mom (2017). Before English Vinglish, Sridevi's comeback of sorts was supposed to be the hard-hitting Shakti (2002) but she was pregnant with her second child Khushi so Karishma Kapoor took over the role.
