Sridevi with Dippy Sagoo in Lamhe: Wah Kya Scene Hai... 

Sridevi was 27 when she shot the film and Dippy Sagoo was around the same age (possibly a little older), but the sophisticated NRI styling, pairing with the older Viren (aka Anil Kapoor), immediately put her in the older woman category whether she liked it or not. Mumbai media was profoundly sexist and ageist--as it is today--so this did her no favours down the line if she had any aspirations of being a leading lady in Bollywood in the 1990s.   

The thankless role of the other woman, Dippy Sagoo did the role of the polished NRI exceedingly well. To hold one's own in front of icons is an achievement, icons like Sridevi (as she was giving a career-defining performance), the legend Waheeda Rehman, a stalwart like Anil Kapoor and eight-time Filmfare winner Anupam Kher!

There was a slightly bizarre article in Stardust about Ms Sagoo and what she had to say about Yash Chopra, Sridevi and Anil Kapoor... but I'm not sure about how reliable and true that feature was where she allegedly bashed the entire unit. Would love to do a follow-up interview with her to set the record straight. She'll forever be part of a cine-classic and this exchange between the two remains etched in movie memories.
