Sridevi and Vinod Khanna in Chandni (1989). It is not only her most elegant and refined performance, but also his. So debonair and suave - just the perfect sophisticated foil to Rishi Kapoor's exuberance in the same film. Both enamored by the leading lady. The punch of his tragedy wouldn't have worked if Vinod Khanna didn't deliver his own flawless performance, proving there are no small parts, just small actors. With limited screen time, and yet all remember the actor's fine work in Chandni--which of course essentially belonged to Sridevi.
Sridevi went on to act with Akshay Khanna in what eventually became her swansong, Mom. Vinod's second son, a first-rate actor and reluctant celebrity if ever there was one in new-age Bollywood. In fact, Khanna Jnr leads the pack as one of the finest of his generation and yet, so uncomfortable with the trappings of fame in contemporary India and blistering Bollywood. Fame in Mumbai requires... patience. Pesty papz and speculative gossip that substitutes for film journalism in India, being known in India is not for the faint of heart or character.
