Sridevi's Award from Cannes 2018

Well, I hope Subash Ghai delivers this trophy to Boney Kapoor and family. Yet another accolade for Sridevi awarded posthumously.

May 2018

"Sridevi was posthumously honoured at the 71st Cannes Film Festival. Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who received the award on her behalf, says he felt honoured.

Sridevi was honoured with the TITAN Reginald F. Lewis Film Icon Award, which celebrates women of the film industry all over the world and also salutes the multicultural impact on the film industry.

Ghai shared a few photographs of himself while receiving the award on Twitter and captioned it: "It was honour to receive the award on behalf of legend Sridevi Kapoor at Cannes Film Festival yesterday for her outstanding contribution in Indian cinema and shared my experience with impeccable inimitable actor to western audience hosted by Titan Reginald F. Lewis film honours."

Sridevi's producer husband Boney Kapoor said he and his daughters Janhvi and Khushi were overwhelmed with the recognition, tributes and love that the actress has been showered with.

"Her work and life has touched so many hearts across the world and she has been an inspiration to millions. She will live forever, thanks to her body of work," Boney said in a statement.

Sridevi in February died due to accidental drowning in a Dubai hotel. She was feted with a posthumous National Film Award for Best Actress in appreciation of her performance in her last released film Mom.

Sridevi's family at the National Awards Ceremony 2018

The profound loss of Sridevi is something we have yet to come to terms with... what the family is going through, we cannot even imagine.

Janhvi Kapoor wearing her mother's sari
Last night, Sridevi's daughters and husband were in New Delhi to collect the Best Actress Award posthumously awarded to... sigh.. the late, great Indian actress, Sridevi. For the film Mom which was released last year where the hard-hitting film packed a punch thanks to the memorable performances by the entire cast, not just Sridevi, who once again proved she is... was the greatest actress of her time.

In honouring her mother, Sridevi's first-born, Janhvi, wore a vintage sari worn previously by her mother back in 2013. She styled it in her own way. Sridevi's youngest, Khushi Kapoor, wore a traditional south Indian style ensemble, honouring her mother's roots. A visibly emotional Boney Kapoor collected the award from the President of India.

Khushi Kapoor.
In a peerless career studded with stunning performances, we deeply wish the honourable judges had bestowed the recognition while Sridevi was alive. There are nearly a dozen, if not more, award-worthy performances that were overlooked for whatever reason, when we fans of Indian cinema feel Sridevi should have been honoured. Oh well. Der aaye durust aaye...

These are some of our fav moments from last night's ceremony.
