Talkies: Filmfare column: Dec 1983: When Sridevi made Amitabh Bachchan Freeze!

Talkies

Sridevi is yet to learn the ways of the Bombay actresses. While shooting with Amitabh Bachchan in Madras for T. Rama Rao's film, when she entered the studio, Amitabh in his mock-serious way folded his hands said 'namaste' and smiled. But to everyone's horror, Sridevi walked past him and greeted the producer and the director first and only then did she flash a smile towards the hero. An astounded Amitabh froze in his 'namaste' posture. But no one can be annoyed with Sridevi for very long and he was back to normal very soon.

Sridevi and Kunal Goswami in Kalaakaar (1983)

Gorgeous songs and a young, scintillating Sridevi makes this '80s musical, Kalaakaar (1983) (almost) memorable. One of Sridevi's earlier Hindi films with Kunal Goswami, whose career on screen never took off unlike his stunning co-star.

Best remembered for songs like Khoye khoye rahe teri rahon mein and the awesome, (awesome!) Kishore Kumar number Neele neele ambar par.

Released 9 Dec, 1983

Sridevi and Kunal Goswami in Kalaakaar (1983)

One of Sridevi's earlier films, she dances up a storm in Kalaakaar. Though the title role belonged to young actor Kunal Goswami (son of actor/producer/director/writer Manoj Kumar), it was Sridevi that went on to superstardom while fame and box-office success eluded Kunal.

The film was ok, but it had phenomenal songs sung by Kishore Kumar. Released in December 1983 - after the phenomenal success of Himmatwala - young Sridevi was 'the' rage. Sridevi was 19 when she shot the film and the teen queen was all set for fame as a pan-Indian superstar.
