Sreedevi with her sister Sreelatha: TBT to 1985! Superstar Sridevi's sibling

Young Sridevi always had someone from her family with her during a film shoot, usually her mother Rajeshwari or sister Sreelatha. Latha was with Sridevi during the making of the Telugu film Vajrayudham (1985).

As famed photographer A.V. Bhaskar was visiting on set, he asked Sridevi's only sister to sit with the superstar for a few clicks. Both looked so good, the images went viral and were published in several Tamil and Telugu film magazines - which was the origin story of the initial rumours that Sreelatha was also interested in joining movies. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Both sisters denied it and yet the rumours persisted. In fact just a few days ago, read this in some BS film website/blog that Sreelatha had interest in joining movies. 40 years later, the rumours still persist when it didn't have an iota of truth to it!

Never understand why fake news travels so much faster than the truth...

Sreedevi with Sreelatha not Sridevi with Srilatha

Sreedevi with Sreelatha not Sridevi with Srilatha! You know we've got the wrong spelling on our now nearly 25 year old page??

Sridevi signed her name as 'Sreedevi'. Bollywood posters shortened it to 'Sridevi.' And the spelling stuck.

And don't even get me started on this epic myth that her name is Shree Amma Iyenger yadda yadda yadda. It's not. Just trying to accumulate enough evidence and research on it with some historical, onomastic proof.

Update: Indeed the Telugu superstars are Rana, Venkatesh, Sridevi (with Boney Kapoor at Rajinikanth's daughter's wedding I believe), Sneha Reddy, Upasana, Ram Charan, Allu Arjun and Sridevi mega fan, Jnr NTR.

Have to confess, when many of us first saw Jnr NTR, never thought he'd scale such mega heights. What a star he's become.

...Sridevi has a big big problem. She's so popular in the South that crowds collect whenever she's around. Recently, there was such a mob turn-out at Vishakapatnam that Sridevi couldn't shoot at all. The ideal solution to this crazy problem would be to shoot in Bombay or any other place north of Bombay for, few have heard of her in these parts let alone pant after her...

TBT to 1997: When Queen Elizabeth met screen Queen Sridevi

At the launch of Marudhanayagam (1997), Kamal Haasan's mega film, Queen Elizabeth II attended. The event was graced by South Indian Cinema royalties like Sridevi and Soundarya - in a rare picture together. Sadly, the film was never completed.

Boney Kapoor and Sridevi attended the event.
