Women in arms: Rekha, Madhuri Dixit, Rekha Hema Malini:

Number One Actresses of India...

Which is such a bizarre way to credit the top stars of their time.

Legends all and since they left their position, the slots have been left empty. The era and aura of true blue superstars is over. Every Friday the contenders change in a game of musical chairs; during the peak of these ladies, they were undisputed queens as hits and flops rose and splattered on the road, without affecting their position, status or superstardom.

"There was a lot of competition and it had a lot of impact. You can always give your best because of a competitive co-star. Asrani and Amjad Khan were very valuable in my previous films. He put me on my knees. The experience of working with Sridevi was also fantastic, She had changed a lot since I worked with her in Inquilab and Akhiri Rasta. She has changed a lot as an actress. Was very confident. I think something happens to her as soon as she comes in front of the camera. She becomes like a lioness and then looks gorgeous in Khuda Gawah," Amitabh Bachchan, talking about working with Sridevi after years.

Knife-wielding Sridevi in the first half of the epic Bollywood film was just something else...

Years after the film's release, Sridevi reflected on the epic film in a MOVIE magazine retrospective, "It was an unusual setting, unusual role. Lovely rich costumes, unheard of locales. Rugged mountains and a very interesting double role of a sad mother and a bubbly daughter. The reunion scene with a grey haired me and bearded Amitabh joining hands to fight the villains was quite emotional.

I had worked with Amitabh earlier in Inquilaab but at that time I was too young. I was like a bacchi [child] with a giant. I was in awe of the stature and only had a few scenes as his wife with him, besides a couple of songs. But by the time we got to do Khuda Gawah, we were very comfortable with each other. He is a great hero, one of the best...."

Jaani yeh chaaku hai chaaku... Sridevi and Rohini Hattangady

One of the funniest scenes in the film Chaalbaaz, these ace actresses just knocked it out of the park with their impeccable comic timing. Rohini Hattangady and Sridevi.

The dialogue delivery of the two in this scene is so spot on... and the expressions, just clean comedy that stands the test of time...
