Sridevi, Shiv Hari and Yash Chopra: TBT To Sept 1988

In earlier post, we had stated the above image of Sridevi, music directors Shiv-Hari with film producer Yash Chopra was from the Mumbai premiere of Chandni in Sept 1989. In fact, we were off by a year! We stand corrected, its from the audio release of Chandni back in Sept 1988, published in Cine Blitz with the ultimate power couple on the cover; Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan.

In retrospect, the song embarrassed Sridevi in later years but let's not forget the song hit Top Ten in 1989!

Despite all of its criticism and memes on Sri's voice, the song was in Top Ten at the charts

The Double Premiere of Chandni in Mumbai and Delhi in 1989

Above, one of the few pics we have of the grand premiere of Chandni in Mumbai; Sridevi, musicians Shivkumar Sharma (and covered by Yashji) Hariprasad Chaurasia), producer and director Yash Chopra and Rekha. Legend has it Rekha was supposed to play the part of Chandni (was her name in the film Silsila) but Sridevi was chosen by Yash Chopra.

Below, images of  the team during the film's Delhi premiere. Interesting to note that all eyes are constantly on Sridevi - who was clearly the superstar of the moment. Also, a surprising appearance of Anil Kapoor - who went on to grab the subsequent film of Yashji, the classic Lamhe.

Although the caption we read online says it was the premier of Chandni - we have doubts about the verification of that as Sridevi had a different look and outfit from the premier as seen in our archive of images here.

But, wow - what an epic pic this is. Each a legendary figure in the film field; Sridevi, Shivkumar Sharma (of the duo Shiv Hari, but a notable santoor player in his own right), Yash Chopra and Rekha.
