Sridevi and Sri..putri!! Janhvi Kapoor

Originally written on Feb 6, 2018

Janhvi Kapoor is all smiles at Fashion Week, arriving with her elegant superstar mother.

The comparisons probably began soon after her birth but young Kapoor this summer will be inevitably, exhaustively, unforgiving-ly, predictably be compared to her legendary mother, iconic Indian actress Sridevi.

Be it in beauty, talent, fashion, acting or dancing skills, youngling Janhvi will have to prove herself in her first film - every critic, cynic and troll will compare her, to her mother who proved herself repeatedly over a span of 266 films.

Second generation actors do not have it easy - the weight of expectation lands heavily on them but at least they have a smooth first foot in. Bollywood may encourage nepotism (a word that's been repeated ad nauseum), but the long list of failed second-gen actors is a mile long, from many an aborted launch; form Armaan Kohli to Zayed Khan, the children of Dev Anand and Manoj Kumar, all were launched with great fanfare - but couldn't sustain audience interest or box-office success. The nepotism argument is not only old hack, its tired and boring. Many children of doctors are doctors, of lawyers are lawyers. Ninety percent of businessmen have children who are businessmen. The statistics in Bollwood are nothing compared to the real world - minus the attention.

Far more exciting to see if they can hold their own - or surpass the legace of their previous generation. Kareena Kapoor is far more successful than Babita ever was. Kajol was always considered a top actress, more so than Tanuja was in her prime. Hrithik Roshan surpassed the boxoffice of Rakesh Roshan in leagues.

Now we wait to see if, by some miracle Janhvi will go even further than Sridevi did....

Doubtful.

But you never know...

Here's wishing Janhvi Kapoor all the best.

Sridevi at Lakme Fashion Week 2012 – Day 4: Screen icon attends with eldest daughter Janhvi Kapoor in tow

Sridevi at Lakme Fashion Week 2012 stuns yet again. Usually, I write a blurb about the event but the fine folks at Bollynow have done the needful, to quote;

"Getting older is just no issue for this beauty who ruled Bollywood with her sensuous looks, dancing talent and acting prowess in the 80s and early 90s. The amazing Sridevi was the cynosure of all eyes at Lakme Fashion Week 2012 – Day 4, sporting a short dress, and looking gorgeous as never. But this time her young girl Janhvi Kapoor also captured our attention.

Both mum and daughter made a fantastic duo. If Sridevi appeared sizzling in a classy top and fashionable short pants, Janhvi was no less a stunner in a blue romper which she paired with bubblegum pink pumps that also matched up with the cover of her mobile. Is she a style diva in the making? Or, is mom Sridevi taking keen desire in grooming Janhvi for a Bollywood future?

Sridevi has a class of her own, which is elegant and yet very stylish. This is something which comes naturally to her; also this fashion-forward star is hardly noticed copying others’ style. Sridevi’s niece and India’s most fashionable celebrity Sonam Kapoor admires her style and also follows her, then what could cease Janhvi from being a fashionista. Fashion buffs have noticed Janhvi and declared that she has indeed arrived on the glamour front.

Janhvi also looked quite beautiful when she was seen at the sangeet of Honey Bhagnani, who married Ritesh Deshmukh’s brother Dheeraj Deshmukh last week. Seen in a bright-coloured ghagra choli, she was just fab.

Catch Jhanvi Kapoor at Lakme Fashion Week 2012 sharing the glamour with her mom Sridevi.

Sridevi on the Catwalk for the first time EVER: Priya and Chinta show, LIFW, April 2008

Sridevi sizzles on the Catwalk!

Indian actress Sridevi proved to be a stunning show stopper at Lakme Fashion Week, 2008. She set the ramp on fire while walking for young new designer duo Priya and Chintan. After the show, Priya said, "Sridevi-ji has been in the industry for so many years and has so much of confidence. She did a brilliant job on the ramp.”

Sridevi looked stunning in her golden attire. At age 44, she looked no less than the beauties of today’s generation - if not more stunning than ever before. She was dressed in a golden hued dress with a corset bodice that was attached to a flared skirt.

"It was a good experience and I was comfortable. The collection was very beautiful," Sridevi said  after the show. To cheer her on husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Janhvi and Khushi were in the front-row of the audience.

Sridevi Stuns on the Ramp

Sridevi reminds the audience of her Hawa Hawaii days. It has been a long time since she has stayed away from celluloid but seeing the response of the audience it is clearly viewed that even today people remember and adore her. Her fans showed their gratitude and respect towards Sridevi by giving her a standing ovation. Rumours are that Sridevi would soon make her comeback in films due to public demand and producer's desire. It is all up to the diva herself on when she decides to return with a bang.
