Sridevi aka Sreedevi, ruled Indian cinema (with awesome performances in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi films) in a career spanning 50 incredible years featuring 266 films. Born in Sivakasi on August 13 1963, her untimely and tragic death on February 24, 2018 left a nation in mourning. In our hearts, she'll forever be, the eternal Queen of Bollywood.

Her talent and beauty was just other-worldly... and her face, features, posture, height, limbs, curves, power and ethereal aura was so Goddessian, filmmakers just automatically cast her as the screen Goddess that she was - no casting or auditions needed...

Thunaivan was released on 4 July 1969; and young Sridevi was barely five-years-old when she shot the devotional, mythological Tamil film. The cherub face, large eyes, ease in front of the camera and a multitude of expressions, she made a lasting impact in her brief role. Cinema critics were as harsh then as they are today, this excerpt from The Indian Express; "If you can ignore the cinema medium, ignore the shortcomings in acting, story, direction and the craft of film-making but are bent upon seeing only the Murugasthalas, you will not be disappointed."

With her expressive face, large eyes, regal demeanor, long limbs, statuesque presence, iconic Indian beauty Sridevi essayed the role of a deity so often, it's no wonder, a certain generation thought of her as a complete Goddess.
Be it in mythological films, costume dramas or the projection of the every day woman as a heavenly being, Sridevi played the part exceptionally well.
One of the many reasons, many of her avid fans have had difficulty in absorbing the fact that someone so larger than life can be felled in such a mundane manner.
We've psychologically accepted she's no longer with us, but still many are searching for answers nevertheless. To what end? We don't know.
