TBT: Throwback to summer of 1986

Middle of the 1980s, this centrefold and shoot with Sridevi is... easily one of my least favourite images of the great Sridevi. Everything is a hot mess... but a reflection of the time. So its here in the blog! 

Despite the obvious obsession, am not blind to the errs of Sridevi either. Be it bad film choices, makeup, outfits or partners... She was divine on screen, all too human off.

We sort of gloss over mid to late 80s "fashion" in Bollywood. Only a doll like Sridevi could pull off most of these ensembles. Including this... Emirates air-hostess uniform in green with appliques!

Pretty in Pink: Teen queen Sridevi on the sets of Kalaakaar (1983). Sridevi was 19 when she shot the film.

Sridevi on the sets of Ram Avtar (1988)  The pop of colour in her salwaars, 80s fashion, makeup. Sridevi experimented a lot with the styling in this film, a mix of western and eastern.

TBT to Sridevi's winter wardrobe in traditional salwaars. She was gorgeous and beyond beautiful we know, but she also groomed herself to look like polished perfection, her self-taught style through trial and error over the years paid off big time. She was a favourite of so many designers and she cherry-picked looks long before personal stylists and PR for hire.

PS: Does ANYONE verifiably know who designed these two perfect looks? Its not the usual suspects of Sabya or Manish...

Shocked, saddened & in disbelief that #Sridevi ji is no more. She was one of the sweetest persons ever... Judaai was my first film. I’ll always be grateful to her for being so nice, patient & encouraging towards me when I was an absolute beginner. ‬
