Sridevi, Rekha, Deepika

Rekha was.... a little surprised by Sridevi's fillers. But Sridevi took matters into her own hand too! Deepika looks on.

The three queens of Bollywood; Teen Deviyan indeed.

Icons only: Sridevi, Rekha, Deepika Padukone: Happy 40th to the Queen of Bollywood

Sridevi, Rekha, Deepika... the Southern invasion of Bollywood to the top spot! It always belonged to a South Indian sensation.

Deepu learned from her predecessors and her enduring career lies testament to the fact she also learned from the best.

The velvet glove iron fist hold South Indian sensations had to the top spot; from Vyjanthimala, Hema Malini, Rekha, Sridevi, Aishwarya Rai to Deepu! [Madhuri Dixit had a brief stint in that list too - we cannot deny!].

You know what strikes her apart from the others? Her athlete mentality. Her commitment to fitness. Every other top actress, once comfortable in her position, sort of let's go of the struggle with the trappings of fame; ie maintaining the body beautiful, leaning on their legacy, repeating the tropes, relying on their fanclub with mediocre films, opting for prosperity not posterity. All the leading ladies had their heavy phase, then they snap back to attention. Not body shaming here, just stating facts. Deepika's focus and drive--even after she made it to the very top-- has always been exceptional.

Happy Birthday queen; born on January 5, 1986 Deepika Padukone turns 40 today. In the past, the age bracket of 30+ was considered the death knell for an actress' career. No longer. Rekha, Sridevi paved the way, Deepika bolstered it.

She is a favourite of many, including the late, great Sridevi. There's a clip you can find of Sri saying, "Deepika's the best, everyone knows it."

Teen Deviyan: Aishwarya Rai, Sridevi, Deepika Padukone: Top Female Stars of Bollywood

Teen Deviyan: Aishwarya Rai, Sridevi, Deepika Padukone: Top Female Stars of Bollywood.

Extreme beauty, power, talent, box-office, clout, grace, style, influence and with identities and agency of their own that did not require a male co-star or counterpart to put them in a league of their own.

Happy Birthday Deepika Padukone: Sridevi favourite

One of Sridevi's favourites was the tall and lithesome Deepika Padukone. South Indian actresses who hit Bollywood with a bang and ended up ruling it. Sridevi mentioned at a red carpet, "What can I say about Deepika? She's simply the best." [Google it!].

Deepika of course, famously launched Sridevi's biography after  her tragic passing and spoke well about the great bond the two actresses shared.

Happy Birthday Mrs Singh; as Deepika Padukone turns 35, she's never looked nor acted better. She has filled the shoes left behind by past Queen of Bollywood, with such ease and elegance. I know she has her (un)fair share of detractors but we are fans of Mz Padukone.

Sridevi: The Eternal Goddess book is out! Deepika Padukone and Boney Kapoor launch Sridevi biography

Earlier today, Deepika Padukone launched  Sridevi: The Eternal Goddess, by Satyarth Nayak, at the Times Lit Fest in Delhi. She was joined on stage by late actress' husband Boney Kapoor and director of Sridevi's penultimate film, Gauri Shinde.

Impeccably dressed and styled Deepika Padukone wore an ivory Sabyasachi Mukherjee sari in honour of Chandni actress Sridevi. She spoke at length about her long association with the late actress and the warm equation the two shared over the years.

Sridevi and Deepika Padukone

In what has become the theater of the absurd for the overpriced fashion shenanigans, the Met Gala was attended by Deepika Padukone in this kermit-the-frog green tulle confection with a pink ribbon-turban (the fact that she still looks gorgeous is a testament to her refined looks).

Social media found comparison with Sridevi's own pink confection in Pathar Ke Insaan (a film released in early 1990 - but shot over the period of 1988-90).

In a word; LOL.

What an epic moment! The three queens of Bollywood sitting together and sharing a laugh one glamorous and glittering evening.

Aishwarya Rai (44), Sridevi (54) and Deepika Padukone (32) represent the best of ladies in their age bracket in Bollywood - defying rampant sexism, ageism, patriarchy and misogyny by having stellar career, relevance and dominance in their field - despite persistent self-titled critics (have you seen the comments on Pinkvilla? oyve!). With sari-clad ease they march on. True divas; gifted, graceful, gorgeous gals.
