Sridevi and Pran in Sherni (1988): Title role

Released on May 13, 1988, Sherni was a title role for Sridevi, released soon after the massive success of Nagina. However, this badly made hodge-podge of Phoolan Devi's life story inspired tale was a massive stinker at the box-office. 

Sridevi worked with many Hindi cinema icons in this film, particularly the late, great Pran.

 Love, love, love finding these vintage gems from the archives, especially of Sridevi in Chandni - the absolute zenith of her epic beauty, talent, fashion and infinite gifts so beautifully honed by the maestro that was Yash Chopra, who defines the Bollywood musical like few others. 

Watching The Romantics on Netflix made me so nostalgic... even beyond the romances, Yash Chopra was a truly gifted director who covered the gamut of genres, his oeuvre was greater than the chiffon sari red roses soft focus songs shot in Switzerland. The grit, the mystery, the violence, the dramas... he really did them all exceptionally well. In my humble estimation, he was the most versatile Indian film director... of all time.

Gora's Hair Salon releases these rare pics of Sridevi on set in Bollywood and Tollywood films from the 1980s - absolute gems from the archive; Sridevi in red, from Sultanat (1984) and Sridevi n gold from the Telugu film Vajrayudham (1985). A gold outfit she repeated in Masterji (1985) - albeit with different hair style and accessories....

The all-star cast of Chaalbaaz (1989). We have over 100 posts on the film in the archive - a touchstone for many an actor. 

Every single star, character artist, cameo was brilliant, be it Annu Kapoor, Sridevi, Rohini Hattangady, Anupam Kher - or (not in pic) Kader Khan. 

"Iske upar pura ka pura tanpura gir gaya..." its such a funny scene between the banker, Sridevi and Anupam Kher!

Amrish Puri and Sridevi on the sets of Garajna (1991). The film was supposed to release back in March 1991 but was stuck due to production issues. Rumours are the completed film is in a vault somewhere. 

Rare photos of Sridevi dancing in the villain's - ie Amrish Puri's - den from the finale of the film. 

Deja vu for many fans I'm sure. 

There are certain tropes that Sridevi endlessly repeated as producers demanded her to do the same thing again and again. Be it repeating films she essayed in the south, box-office hits or song routines. Due to her seemingly infinite capabilities, Sri tried to bring her own twist to each routine.
