While I agree (mostly) with this list, a few notable names are missing — primarily Meenakshi Seshadri, Hema Malini, and Aishwarya Rai.

Hema Malini earned admiration even from Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi, and choreographers like Farah Khan and Saroj Khan. Most of her films featured at least one noteworthy classical or semi-classical number, as audiences always expected a memorable Hema Malini highlight. Her dedication to classical dances have been ongoing - even during the peak of her film career, she devoted time and effort to classical shows. It translated on the big screen too as she's been ever graceful and a benchmark to all ensuing leading ladies. No actress has been considered number one - unless the can dance like a dream. Like the original Dream Girl, Hema Malini. 

Meenakshi Seshadri was essentially a dancer first, an over actress later. In my opinion, she performed two of the most difficult dances of all time in two different films: a powerful Tandav in Damini and an exquisite classical numbers in Teri Payal Mere Geet. I’m not sure any of her contemporaries — even the great Madhuri Dixit — could have executed the title song’s dance routine with the same grace and poised perfection. The classical steps are incredibly intricate and demanding and recreating it live is... near-impossible. I'm not sure even Meenakshi can recreate the physically demanding steps and the complexities at this age - some of the back-breaking steps can only be done in  your 20s! 

As for Aishwarya Rai, if you can stand alongside Madhuri Dixit and match her step for step without being eclipsed, you’re already in a league of your own. Their duet “Dola Re Dola” remains one of the greatest choreographed semi-classical dance routines in Hindi cinema. From her very first film Iruvar to her later "item numbers", Aishwarya has consistently proven herself to be a far more versatile and accomplished dancer than an actress. Even in her weakest films, her dancing has always been impeccable. 

There are several dancers missing in the above list; dare-I-say Jaya Prada, Padmini, the ever-graceful Waheeda Rehman are all missing in the pantheon of great dancers/stars/actresses of their and all-time. 

Sridevi's 73 Bollywood Films: Full Hindi Filmography from Child Artist to Legend

The hardest working actress of her - and possibly all - time, Sridevi's debated filmography (she has NOT appeared in 300 films, the figure hovers around 266), we have been empirically tracking, backing our writing with facts, figures and not relying on unverified, inaccurate PR spiel, or word of mouth fan fiction that seems to encircle most Indian celebrities. 

When film publications seem to publish numbers without verifying them, it makes one wonder if any of the box-office reports with these inflated numbers have even a modicum of truth to it. 

As we've said before, during the promotions of --what tragically became her swansong--the film Mom back in 2017. some clever clog stated, without checking, that Mom would be Sridevi's 300th film. Not a single journalist or film historian or cinephile raised an eyebrow to even bother to factcheck that number. And that's all you need to know about the state of film journalism in India.

Anyhoo, so here's THE list of Sridevi's Hindi films. I've seen about 80 per cent of them - fun fact, Sridevi has NOT seen majority of her own films! As she stated in several of her interviews in the past. Particularly when she was a very busy working superstar - especially during her peak when she was averaging 12-16 film releases a year!! 

Fun fact 2, Sridevi herself forgot she was briefly in Rani Mera Naam [which we saw on YouTube BTW, young Sridevi is only in it for five minutes or so] and not once has she brought it up in any of her interviews! 

Fun fact 3, she often knew a film was going to flop before the reports came, Sridevi had a gut instinct that Solva Saawan would flop, Sherni, Heer Ranjha, Chaand Kaa Tukdaa etc. If Sridevi didn't turn up for the premiere, or if she was a no-show at the audio launch, if she skipped questions pertaining to the film... it was all a sign!

They say not to compare... but we did it anyway. Sridevi versus Madhuri Dixit's Career in Indian Cinema: Our most debatable post yet.

A detailed, data-driven comparison of the careers of Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi, based exclusively on the filmographies provided in the specified Wikipedia pages (reliable-ish.... ). I've focused on box office success (total gross earnings, number of hits, and highest earners) and critical acclaim (National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards/Critic Awards, and notable honourary mentions). 

It is irrefutable that both ladies were iconic leading actresses in Hindi cinema. Well, Madhuri Dixit did the one odd Marathi film, while Sridevi had a remarkable career in Telugu and Tamil cinema as well. A brief period in Malayalam cinema, smaller still in Kannada (which has been blown out of proportion by the ignorant!), Sridevi was an early candidate for the term pan-Indian superstar. All this spanning the 1970s–2017, Sridevi was prolific to say the least. Madhuri's peak was late 1980s to late1990s; Sridevi's was 1970s–1990s, with a strong, memorable comeback in 2012 with English Vinglish and a National-award-winning swansong, Mom in 2017. The ladies had their own camp, camp following, rabid fanatics (still fighting their paper wars, except now its online and equally fervid). 

I've tried (TRIED) to be rational and have a bird's eye view of their filmography. I'm not debating who is better, or more beautiful as the benediction of my kind opinion doesn't favour this feature.

Over the last decade, there have been innumerable award shows with ludicrous categories that guarantee stars with trophies and trinkets if they show up to the ceremony. Most of it means little, nothing substantiative. To be frank, even Filmfare has lost its lustre since it started pandering to stars for ratings of their televised shows - following the trend of Golden Globes (Angelian Jolie and Johnny Depp were nominated for The Tourist!!!), the gravitas of the awards and its meritocracy has always been questioned.
