Sridevi in Manish Malhotra sari or Sabyasachi sari?

Sridevi wearing a Manish Malhotra tricolour sari.

Sridevi wearing a full Sabyasachi look.

Looking regal in both, she truly was the Queen of Indian cinema.

The reign ended tragically... but she'll forever be remembered.

Two of our fav looks on the legend.

Regal Sridevi: AI altered pic of Sridevi trending on Social Media

Sridevi looks magnificent, regal, imperious, powerful, the true blue superstar of Bollywood. The pose, her expression, the sheaths of embroidered fabric, her dazzling accessories, the overall elegance, the high gloss styling... are barely worthy of her stature as India's leading lady. The portrait captures Sridevi at the zenith of her pan-Indian superstar status, but, but, but... its fake. Well, its been digitally enhanced to a vertical portrait by some new app or program and I'm unfamiliar with. Digicanva? AI PhotoEdit? Who knows?

As images, clips of Indian stars altered trend online, soon many won't be able to tell the real from the fake pic. And its a loss to all. Those who haven't realised it - give it time. You'll see.

The original, 'real' photos were taken by the late great Gautam Rajadhyaksha for Cine Blitz magazine back in August 1992. Sridevi was 29 and totally owned her space in the pantheon of great film legends. An actor and star like no other before or after.

Sridevi and Silk Smitha: Telugu film Icons

Sridevi and Silk Smitha: Telugu film Icons

A still that says it all. One that ruled cinema, the other an icon of eros on film.

Released the same year Sridevi re-entered Bollywood with a bang - she was still delivering hits in Tamil cinema in 1983.

Sridevi as Queen in Puli

A movie that made more Rs100 crore, and yet was declared a flop as it didn't recover costs, Puli was a classic case of coulda woulda shoulda.... but didn't.

A return to Tamil films for Sridevi after a 29 year gap, I've never wanted to like a movie more but... aiyaaaaa. It was awful.

Sridevi looked fierce, her look and acting, and its tone reminded many of Charlize Theron in Snowhite and the Hunstman, but, a desi-version in an inferior film.

Perhaps it works better for a younger generation looking at it like a children's fantasy film but the ambitious movie faltered in execution.

Have seen many clips and reels of the film... just to see Sri again...

"She left Tamil cinema like a young princess off to the big bad world of Bollywood, and came back a Queen having conquered it: Sridevi." - Suhasini Ratnam.

Sridevi and Silk Smitha in Adutha Varisu (1983)

Sridevi was three years younger than Silk Smitha and they appeared in few films together both in Telugu and Hindi films.

Sridevi ruling in Adutha Varisu (1983)

Sridevi ruling in Adutha Varisu (1983) This Tamil film was dubbed into Hindi too after Sridevi and Rajnikanth became pan-Indian famous but neither Rajnikanth nor Sridevi dubbed for the Hindi version and the film barely registered at the box-office - unlike the original.

There once was a Queen in India... Sridevi in Sultanat

Sridevi's regal look from Sultanat. (We think! Its not officially in the film but could be from a look test or a scene that was eventually left on the editing room floor... )
