Apart from Sridevi's immediate family, and our small, ever-decreasing posse of hardcore Sridevi fans, many in the Indian film industry, busy promoting their own mostly bullshit films, just forgot to remember that it was the legend Sridevi's birthday. 

The ENTIRE film industry, even Sridevi's famed detractors, posted about Sridevi's untimely death and loss in 2018. Reeling from the shock and immediacy of impact with the incessant false-reportage that aired on TV. From that fateful day till date, the numbers have dwindled so dramatically, it reminded me of the quote, 'Chandni sirf chaar din ki, phir andheri raat hai...."

Of course husband Boney Kapoor, brother-in-law and frequent co-star Anil Kapoor, Sridevi's daughters Janhvi and Khushi remembered her. The other 'fans'... well, had switched off.

Look, I don't blame them. I know of people who forget their own mother's barsi, Sridevi was a familiar face on film and nothing more to them. But the stats on social media can indicate how quickly one is forgotten by the masses, no matter how big an impact or legacy... 

Fame is a cruel mistress. Here today, gone tomorrow. 

 Five years on, we're still posting daily. Wonder when our time will come...

Sridevi's 60th Birth Anniversary:

Tragically, Sridevi passed away at the age of 54, a few months shy of her 55th birthday. 

In the Hindu calendar, one's 60th is considered a landmark year. She would have turned 60 on August 13, 2023. Her birth anniversary year... } as it will now forever be phrased since her untimely passing.

Deified in her youth as an icon, her second innings were about to take flight to heights unknown. Two successful, critically acclaimed films--English Vinglish and Mom--she may have stepped into the nervous 90s gingerly, but in her second innings and third act, Sridevi reigned supreme. No longer a slave to box-office, media machinations, confident Sridevi knew when to say yes and when to firmly say no. The offers were still coming in from the top brass. Let's not forget it was she who turned down offers, be it Yash Chopra, Subash Ghai, and rather infamously, SS Rajamouli. For each, she had her own reasons. 

As her children grew into young adults, she would have ventured forward, out performed, out done and wowed her staunchest critics and her rabid fans. The skill set, honed for 50 years, was at the peak, Sridevi was at her sharpest... and then a blunt force fall, ended it all. 

Fate and fame is a cruel mistress, it even hit this master of her craft.

Born on October 6, 1946, today is Vinod Khanna's 76th birth anniversary. 

Vinod Khanna and Sridevi appeared in quite a few films together, most memorably in the blockbuster that was Chandni. (Left). 

Despite their 17 year age gap, they looked great together on screen.
