Sridevi in S.P.Parasuram: Telugu cinema in the 90s
The most comprehensive fan blog dedicated to India's most beautiful and greatest actress of all-time (in our humble opine!), Sridevi. Sridevi aka Sreedevi, ruled Indian cinema (with awesome performances in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi films) in a career spanning 50 incredible years featuring 266 films. Born in Sivakasi on August 13 1963, her untimely and tragic death on February 24, 2018 left a nation in mourning. In our hearts, she'll forever be, the eternal Queen of Bollywood.
Sridevi winking on screen was more cute than erotic, cheeky more than naughty...
Gorgeous Sri!
An archive of her winks - I kid you not - here.
Sridevi in Jawab Hum Denge.
This unexpected flop of Telugu superstars Sridevi and Chiranjeevi took everyone by surprise. Released in the summer of '94 (15 June 1994 to be exact), the magical combo of the blockbuster pair of Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (1990), was expected to deliver an instant hit. At that time, JVAS was the biggest success of Telugu cinema - the audience's expectation and anticipation was huge as the stars kept them waiting for nearly four years before working together again. The film opened to packed houses in record numbers and then... nose-dived.
Now, 28 years later, there's an interesting post-script. Avid.. or should we rabid?.. fans of the two stars are suddenly rewriting the box office palimpsest. Claiming the film to be a huge success, we've seen this false report in several social media accounts and unedited blogs.
Um. No. S.P. Parasuram was not a hit.
You can't suddenly make up facts about box office figures! Sridevi and Chiranjeevi have spoken about how taken aback they were when the film didn't work - noting that the audience wanted something else, and not the cop drama when their fantasy film had done such wonders in the past.
Oh well. You can't win them all!
