Sridevi and Kunal Goswami in Kalaakaar (1983)

Sridevi and Kunal Goswami

Kunal Goswami, Rakesh Bedi and Sridevi

Released in the same year as Himmatwala, Sridevi and Kunal Goswami (son of Manoj Kumar - nepotism didn't begin or end in 2018!) in Kalaakar (1983). Released in December, the film with its tragic story line was a flop. The music and the leading lady, were a hit.

Yesteryear's legends all tried to launch their sons and daughters with about 90% failure rate as actors/stars. Kunal found success in business that he didn't on screen. At some point the delusion has to evaporate and reality sink in; either you have it or don't.

Sridevi in Kalaakaar (1983)

At age 20, Sridevi was rocking contemporary early 1980s fashion in Bollywood throughout the film. Though to be honest, she looked better in the saris and salwars.

(L) Sridevi with music director Bappi Lahiri. The music of the film was composed by Kalyanji–Anandji - Bappi da had a brief cameo on the film.

Above: Sridevi with Kunal Goswami from the film Kalaakaar (1983). The actor was tall and sincere but there was obviously something missing as entire filmography is full of flops. Even Kumar Gaurav gave 'a' hit.

Jeetendra and Sridevi: Cine Blitz Dec 1983

Jeetendra and Sridevi star in their first Cine Blitz cover ever - December 1983!!

The 'it' couple on screen in Bollywood brought, fun and froth to film. For many, these two are the reason to watch Bollywood with their unprecedented run of box-office success throughout the decade.

This is a rare gem of an issue; a Cine Blitz cover story where they interviewed each other. A fun chat - wish we had the issue so we could type up the entire conversation!

This was the cover story for Cine Blitz December 1983 - capping a phenomenal year for the two stars. Of the Top Ten movies of the 1983, Sridevi and Jeetendra reigned supreme with Himmatwala, Justice Chowdhary and Mawali - three films that rocked the box-office.

Cover story tagline: "Jeetu Corners Sridevi".
