Sridevi passed at age 54. Pamela Chopra at 74.

Sad to hear of her passing earlier this week, the Yash Raj matriarch was the backbone of the company, the family in more ways than one.

 Love, love, love finding these vintage gems from the archives, especially of Sridevi in Chandni - the absolute zenith of her epic beauty, talent, fashion and infinite gifts so beautifully honed by the maestro that was Yash Chopra, who defines the Bollywood musical like few others. 

Watching The Romantics on Netflix made me so nostalgic... even beyond the romances, Yash Chopra was a truly gifted director who covered the gamut of genres, his oeuvre was greater than the chiffon sari red roses soft focus songs shot in Switzerland. The grit, the mystery, the violence, the dramas... he really did them all exceptionally well. In my humble estimation, he was the most versatile Indian film director... of all time. 

Sridevi with Pamela Chopra

Though much has been spoken about how fond Sridevi was of her producer/director/mentor and "father figure", Yash Chopra, Sridevi was excessively fond of Pamela Chopra, noted singer, film producer and of course, wife of the late legend.

Pamela Chopra famously sang Main Sasural Nahin Jaoungi for Sridevi in Chandni and the gorgeous medley in Lamhe (and a few lines of Morni for the young Pooja!). 

During the traumatic loss of her father, it was maternal Pamela who took care of Sridevi after she lost her parent during the film production and remote shoot of Lamhe.

"I also have the highest regards for Mrs. Pamela Chopra who went out of her way to look after me in London, when I reported there, for the shooting of Lamhe 13 days after my father’s death. I am a very emotional person, and these are the kind of memories that I will always cherish." 

Sridevi at Yash Chopra Memorial Award ceremony: Honouring the great Lata Mangeshkar

In her signature style, a simple and elegant white sari, stunning Sridevi was seen at the first Yash Chopra Memorial Award ceremony held last night (Oct 19, 2013). Commemorating Yash Chopra's contribution to Indian cinema, the organisers hope to make it an annual event.

Boney Kapoor escorted his gorgeous wife to the event and Sridevi was seen with her friends and colleagues such as Anil Kapoor and Poonam Dhilloon, Hema Malini, Rani Mukherjee, Anoushka Sharma, Simi Garewal and so on (all stars of past Yash Raf films).

The award was aptly given to the living legend; Lata Mangeshkar.
