TBT to 2000: Sridevi, Aishwarya Rai, Anil Kapoor, Boney Kapoor, Pahalaj Nihalani and PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Major 23 year throwback Thursday; Sridevi, Aishwarya Rai, Anil Kapoor and Boney Kapoor and others with the then Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. 

These photographs were taken in the year 2000 when a Bollywood contingency was in in New Delhi to give a cheque to the PM's charity. The cast and crew of the film Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai were shooting in New Delhi at the time - they met the Indian Prime Minister to donate to charitable funds.

Sridevi won the Entertainer of the Year Award at the NDTV Indian of the year ceremony.

Sridevi declared Entertainer of the Year 2012 at the NDTV Indian of the Year Awards. Sridevi with Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh and other winner at Taj Palace.

"Close on the heels of her prestigious Padma Shri honour, Sridevi won another award at the NDTV Indian Of The Year ceremony at New Delhi. The superstar was honoured with 'Entertainer of the Year' award for her historic comeback with English Vinglish in 2012. NDTV lauded the actress for proving that 'talent can only get better with age' and again making it possible for 'actresses of substance to take center-stage in Bollywood.'

The award was presented to Sridevi by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj who revealed that she loved watching Sridevi's films.

English Vinglish released in October last year, went on to become a global hit and found a place in Top 10 Overseas Blockbusters of 2012 making Sridevi possibly the only actress in Bollywood history to make such a triumphant comeback. The superstar received a standing ovation at the film's World Premiere at the Toronto Film Festival and was hailed by the international media as 'India's Meryl Streep.' Sridevi was also nominated by CNN-IBN Indian of the Year in Entertainment category and later picked up Hello Magazine Hall of Fame Outstanding Performance of the Year award, Stardust Best Actress (Drama) award and Apsara Producer's Guild 'President's Honour' for English Vinglish.

Recently the actress was also voted 'India's Greatest Actress of All Time' in a nationwide poll by CNN-IBN.

Kareena Kapoor was also present at the NDTV ceremony to pick up her award for 'Entertainer of the Decade' and called Sridevi the reason why she became an actress and that the superstar had set the bar again for all other actresses with English Vinglish."

Wow what a lineup! Sridevi, Aishwarya Rai, ? with Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee - photographs taken in the year 2000!

The stars were in New Delhi to give a cheque to the PM's charity. 

Sridevi has a reluctant link to politics; back in the early 1990s, Sridevi's father had run for election in the South but failed to win. Sridevi had originally discouraged her dad from running but eventually did lend him her full support. She has spoken about how kind and simple he was and couldn't deal with the politics of... politics!
