Sridevi: Filmfare remembers. Incorrectly.

Sridevi didn't enter the film industry as a child star in Julie (1975), she entered in Rani Mera Naam (1972). 

Well, again, limited fact checking published in Filmfare recently as this could easily have been corrected. But we do understand that errors, typos and historical inaccuracies in print are inevitable today as the media is going through such massive culls; editors, sub-editors, fact-checkers have gone for a toss. Minimal staff, maximum hours. 

Current Filmfare editor hasn't been one to check the nitty-gritty of a little thing like facts when gossip and innuendo sells more. Well, at least he wrote a moving tribute to Sridevi on her birth anniversary. Der aaye, durust aaye, ghar ke budhhu, ghar toh aaye... 

An earlier except from 1990 when Filmfare wrote, "How Amitabh Wooed Sridevi!"  After saying she'd never work with Amitabh again, because there was nothing for an actress to do in a Bachchan starrer, Sridevi's done an about turn and signed S.Ramanathan's Khuda Gawah and Ramesh Sippy's untitled film. What made her change her mind?"

This was pre-Pillai. Well, Sridevi never said she wouldn't work with Amitabh Bachchan, only she wouldn't work in a movie where she had nothing to do. But that doesn't make a spicy headline!

Happy Birthday Aamir Khan - the fine actor and film producer turns 59 today. Seen here with Sridevi on the cover of the Hindi tabloid Film City, Aamir was only two years younger than Sridevi but as Sridevi had started her film career long before his, it was assumed that the age-gap was wider. It wasn't.
