Sridevi in Devatha:

Released on 4 September 1982, Telugu film Devatha (Goddess) was directed by K. Raghavendra Rao, starring Sobhan Babu, Sridevi, Jaya Prada and Mohan Babu. The film was seen across the Hindi belt with Jeetendra as Tohfa, a frame-by-frame remake that ended up being the biggest hit of 1984!  

The film was produced by D. Rama Naidu and was key in establishing the formulaic business model of quick Madras movie remakes. 

The story of two sisters and their love triangle with a man, of sacrifice and loyalty, with chart topping numbers is easy viewing. K. Raghavendra Rao remade the film in Hindi as Tohfa (1984), with both Sridevi and Jaya Prada reprising their roles. It was also remade in Tamil as Deiva Piravi (1985) with a different cast. .

Sridevi was just 19 when she shot the film - and so staggeringly beautiful.

In a tell-all interview, Pankaj Parasher revealed that Sridevi knew days before the award show that she was going to win Best Actress at Filmfare for her performance in Chaalbaaaz - and that's the only way she would turn up for the show. She was so busy in 1989/1990 period that to fly down to Mumbai, a trophy and award had to be dangled at the end of the stick! 

Sridevi was a workaholic, a dozen releases a year was not uncommon, so she didn't waste time at parties, events and award shows unless pertaining to her film/work. When Sridevi made her first appearance at the Hindi Filmfare awards nite, all eyes were on her - she rarely made public appearances.

Box-office may or may not always be with him, but hardly anyone points a finger at his acting.  

 Amitabh, eternal light, simply the greatest Indian actor alive today. Bless him.

Released on 8 May 1992, there was no bigger film in the 90s than Khuda Gawah -- a movie meant to be seen ONLY on the BIG screen.  We have so many features and images from the film in the archive here.

The premiere was phenomenal - god bless Lehrein Retro for this clip - but its so odd that there isn't a SINGLE shot of Sridevi at her own film's premiere!!! WHY? What happened. Of course we know she was there - there are dozens of photos (like the two above) -- as Sridevi attended the event with her mother. She was on stage with her co-stars, choreographer Saroj Khan and so on. Perhaps she didn't sign off on the release with Lehrein? If anyone knows, kindly let us know below.
