On this day, back in 14 September 2012, English Vinglish opened to universal acclaim. Glorious Sridevi elevated the experience. As Boney Kapoor revealed earlier this year in 2024 that Aishwarya Rai was in the reckoning to lead the film, we are so glad fates intervened as rarely have we seen an actor OWN the part like no one else.
The most comprehensive fan blog dedicated to India's most beautiful and greatest actress of all-time (in our humble opine!), Sridevi. Sridevi aka Sreedevi, ruled Indian cinema (with awesome performances in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi films) in a career spanning 50 incredible years featuring 266 films. Born in Sivakasi on August 13 1963, her untimely and tragic death on February 24, 2018 left a nation in mourning. In our hearts, she'll forever be, the eternal Queen of Bollywood.

The cast of English Vinglish eulogises Sridevi: 9 years of English Vinglish, the greatest comeback of a leading lady: EVER!
My heart is heavy today as I received news of Sridevi's passing. My time working with her will always be one of my most cherished memories. She was the epitome of talent and grace. My condolences to her beautiful family and to the entire cast and crew of English Vinglish. We are truly diminished today. She will be missed and never forgotten!

I am still in shock about the news. It was an honor to work with and share the screen with the legendary Sridevi. I will never forget my time working with Sridevi and the entire cast and crew of English Vinglish. My thoughts and prayers are with her daughters and family - it is incredibly hard to lose a parent and loved one. Sridevi, you have touched so many lives, may you rest in eternal peace.

Sridevi in the snow in a red Sabya sari: English Vinglish
Had she lived, had she been given the opportunity, there is no question in my mind, Sridevi would have won an Oscar. Even after over 250 performances, her infinite potential hadn't been fully tapped.
Indian cinema doesn't need the tacit approval of the mostly white Academy, it thrives on its own. But it sure would have been great to see Sridevi on stage collecting an award...
Sigh..
If wishes were horses, we'd all be ridin'...
