Despite an incredible cast of A-listers - Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna, Sridevi, Rajinikanth - and directed by Anil Sharma (who went on to make the blockbuster Gaddar), absolutely nothing could save Farishtay from tanking at the box-office.
A haphazard shooting schedule, a made-on-the-spot-script that was constantly being re-written, poor music, boring choreography, patchy camerawork... its slightly shocking how much money was spent to make such an inexpensive looking film.
The cast alone guaranteed a big opening but good-lord does the movie test your patience as the hollow jingoism, shoddy dialogues screamed by the cast, a dare-I-say-it slightly repetitive Sridevi (don't pelt me! even the great Sridevi had off days)... its incredible how movies were made in the 1980s.

Well...
Sridevi looked lovely in the film.

It took almost an hour before Sridevi appeared in the film. I was about to throw a hammer at the tv and finally she appeared and who can forget the song 'Tere bina jag lagta hai soona'
