Amidst rumours that actress Sridevi’s comeback film is not happening, husband filmmaker Boney Kapoor confirms that hiswife Sridevi is ready to bat for her second innings. According to Boney, she will be starting her much-awaited second innings in Bollywood from July this year when she starts shooting for national award-winning director R Balki’s wife, Gauri.
“She had never gone anywhere. She was always around but till this time nobody came to her with an offer (read script) that she couldn’t refuse,” says Kapoor.
“The script is really good and we are really keen on seeing this film take shape. The film goes on the floors this July. So, we should be able to release the film by next year. Though I cannot give you any more details about the film, I can tell you that she’s doing a very challenging role,” says Kapoor.
So, what about the fact that Boney wanted to cast Sridevi in her comeback film? “That will surely happen. I am also keen on working with her but right now Balki’s film will be getting precedence over everything else,” he adds.
Boney also disagrees that Sridevi has started going to the gym and has started power yoga with renewed vigour because of the film. “It’s nothing like that. She was always very fitness conscious and there’s nothing that she is doing extra. She’s been always keen on going back to the movies and I am glad that it’s finally happening,” he adds.
Boney doesn’t want to go into the details why the talks with filmmaker Yash Chopra or producer Ekta Kapoor fizzled out because of budget related issues. “Ekta was not in the picture. This film was totally conceptualised by Gauri and Balki. We are all waiting to see the outcome now,” he signed off.
