Sunny Deol, Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in Ram Avtar (1988)

Sridevi with Anil Kapoor and Sunny Deol in Ram Avtar (1988). The reviews for this film were mostly unkind, calling it the poor man's Sangam.
The similarities are so glaring, we are surprised no one sued the other for copyright infringement, but then Bollywood "borrows" heavily from various sources - and that's a long thread not to be pulled!

Sridevi (during her slightly hefty days), Sunny Deol and Anil Kapoor all acted well in the highly predictable film. The song Ungli main Anghooti was one of the biggest hits of the year back in 1988. All three stars remained unscathed by the tepid response at the box-office as each respective star was in top form in the 1980s, in Bollywood.

Sridevi went on to act with Sunny Deol and Anil Kapoor in several films. The relationship between Deol and Sri was lukewarm at best, cold mostly. Meanwhile Anil Kapoor got along famously well with all his heroines.

The film has its merits albeit few and far between, but for many fashion-viewers, the film is a look into what was in vogue in the mid 1980s - the shoulder-pads, the problem-patterns, the contrasting colours, the plastic accessories, everything was big, bold and bright for celluloid, but also a reflection of what was street-chic in the 80s. Just look at adverts from that timeline to see how Sri wore what the fashionistas did.
