Earlier in January, when it was announced that she would be honoured by the President, Sridevi said in a statement, "I am honoured and humbled by the recognition. I would like to thank my fans for all the love and support they have given me."
What is astounding for us hardcore Sridevi fans is, how long its taken for this to happen. A career spanning 45 years, 250+ films in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, Sridevi FINALLY receives the Padma Shree for her contribution to cinema. A fine example of better late than never!
Was wonderful to see her children and husband applaud their pride and joy, Sridevi, so whole-heartedly during the ceremony.
Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and then Padmashree. Padma Shri (also written as Padmashree) is the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India awarded by the government.
Currently in the film industry, legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar is the only living Bharat Ratna, at the age of 84.
Sridevi has plenty of time to get the Bharat Ratna - and if she regularly appears on film, its just a matter of time!
