Sridevi with her Masala Award

Sridevi

Some stars are evergreen and Sridevi is certainly one of them. As Karan Johar once remarked, “Sridevi can never go out of fashion.” The Mom star is, in fact, witnessing a career revival post English Vinglish and Mom. Before that, as we all know, the actress was busy playing mom to daughters Jhanvi and Khushi in real life and had to take a break from acting.

With English Vinglish, she made a successful comeback after more than a decade. Bollywood can be cruel to senior stars, but Sridevi became one of the few stars, alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha, to break that shackle. After her performance in English Vinglish, in which she played a coy mother who nobody appreciates and takes for granted until she proves that there’s so much more to her than her laddoo-making skills, producers made a beeline for Sridevi.

But instead of jumping into a film-singing spree, she waited patiently for the right script. And then came along Mom, which was worlds apart from English Vinglish. The avenging mother of this thriller co-starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna was the polar opposite of the docile Shashi of English Vinglish. Mom wowed the critics and audiences alike and Sridevi’s power-packed performance was singled out as one of her best. The movie has made waves in  the international arena too as it was screened at a film festival in Moscow.

And although Miss Hawa Hawaii is on a roll, something tells us that this cinematic legend has much more to offer - which is great news for her legions of fans!
