All of 19 at the time of the film's release with her co-star Jeetendra (then aged 41 - we'll have a discussion on ageism in Bollywood another time!), young Sridevi had just exploded into India's national cinematic consciousness in Feb of 1983 as Himmatwala was a massive hit.
Three months later, by May 1983, the audience wanted to see the repeat magic of the Jeetendra - Sridevi combo but Jaani Dost (despite its hit music and dances) was limp fare at the box-office. Sri looked gorgeous throughout of course.
