After working with Amitabh Bachchan as a newcomer to Bollywood in Inquilaab (1984) and Aakhri Raasta (1986), Sridevi's unprecedented success at the box office empowered her well enough to reject roles offered by Bollywood film-producers when her role was merely ornamental in the film. At a time when her contemporaries were cutting their salaries, shifting dates to accommodate the biggest star in India (till date), Sridevi famously rejected roles and gave self-assured quotes to film magazines (most famously "What's there to do as an actress in a Bachchan film?).

It took a fat paycheck and a double role to bring together the titans of the Hindi film industry and it all started with pre-publicity stills for Khuda Gawah. The shoot went viral and was covered - literally on the cover of - several film magazines; Filmfare, g magazine and Mayapuri among several others.
From September 1991 to June 1992, variations from this shoot ran in several magazines. This is an era long before magazine exclusives... obviously.
