Released a few days after Sridevi's birthday, on August 19, 1994, Chand Ka Tukda opened well but tanked quickly, on account of the film being very shoddily made. Everyone involved with the film washed their hands of it almost immediately.

Sridevi said in an interview that she got a lot of negative feedback from even her biggest fans. The film that was proposed, and what was released was entirely different as it went through several script and cast changes during its long production.

Producer, director, writer, lyricist Saawan Kumar Tak blamed Salman Khan for its delay, the critics pointed out at the faulty plot, acting, editing, narrative... I mean, there are very few redeemable features in the movie. Despite the wattage of the star power of Salman Khan and Sridevi [their fame in the 90s was beyond compare], a directionless and wayward script cannot be saved.

And it started off so well; the mahurat of the movie, with the first take by Amitabh Bachchan no less, it was the most talked about and highly anticipated film of the year. The splash across the media was intense, the fascination with the brawn and the beautiful talked about intensely. But even a bad film arrives with good intentions.

Oh well.

Left: Amitabh Bachchan at the mahurat of Chaand Kaa Tukdaa; launched on 9/8/1991!!
