When she returned to Bollywood after marriage, motherhood that had her blissfully away from the limelight, she was welcomed back with open arms, critical acclaim and box-office bonuses. She was also wise enough to recognise that had any of her films flopped or been badly received she would have happily gone back to domestic bliss. But clearly the audience wanted more of Sridevi as gifts, seemingly infinite and inexhaustible, were still being discovered even though she had over 250 films to her credit.
There was a refined, polished, cognoscente, informed, enlightened, it was a seamless return. She knew her trade, she had the chops, she hit all the right notes, she didn't miss a beat... There was nothing gauche or clumsy about her comeback.
What a pity the book closed abruptly when the chapter was still being read...
