BTW I had a senior editor who did not like using the term 'artist' as a blanket statement for anyone in the artistic field. A painter is an artist, a musician or actor isn't an artist, they are musicians and actors...
And there are several papers and senior magazine editors who use the term 'actor' for both men and women; citing, for example, a male doctor is a doctor, a female doctor is not a 'doctress', she's still a doctor - so why the qualification for this field but not in all? Again, this isn't my posit but by a learned man's thinking process. Something to ponder at will...
