Sridevi with Rajinikanth in Ranuva Veeran (1981)

Here's yet another example of how hard it is to tabulate the exact number of films Sridevi appeared in.

So here goes, back in October 1981, the Tamil release for the festive season of Diwali was the Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Sridevi starrer Ranuva Veeran. Released either on 26th or 27th of 1981 - to be confirmed as both dates are advertised online!

Though the original film flopped, to compensate for the losses, the producers dubbed the film in Hindi eight years later and released it as Zulm Ki Zanjeer (1989) - cashing in on the vast popularity of Sridevi and Rajinikanth in the Hindi belt that year. Poorly dubbed, the Hindi version tanked too.

The film was also dubbed in Telugu as Chiranjeevi and Sridevi were massive stars in that region too - dubbed as Bandipotu Simham (1982).

BTW Sridevi wasn't thrilled about the re-release of the film and said as much but she was helpless to stop the theatrical releases that were dubbed by other artists. There was a lot of false... well, murky advertisement like it was a 'new' film when it clearly wasn't. The audiences weren't fooled either, the dated movie opened to low footfall.

Now for those of us trying to accurately tally the comprehensive list of Sridevi films do we count this movie as one - or three? As it was dubbed in as many languages?!
