The film was supposed to have Jackie Shroff and Jaya Prada with a cameo by Sri - that kept getting extended as the phrase Main tera Dushman (the iconic phrase from Sridevi's superhit Nagina), the film title was so symbiotically linked to Sridevi.
Rumours have it When the film was announced in May 1987, Dharmendra, Sumeet Saigal, Anita Raj and Sonam were in the film. They were replaced by Rajesh Khanna, Sunny Deol and Jaya Pradha. Sonam's role was scrapped entirely while Sridevi was added. Before Main tera Dushman (an average earner at best), film director Vijay Reddy had made Jawab Hum Denge also with Jackie Shroff and Sridevi.
