The costume drama was a huge, huge flop when it released but now finds a life of its own online with a massive cult following. It is our most popular gallery here on the site, the songs do record number of views on YouTube, the images and stills from the film trend on Tumblr and Pinterest till date. 

Personally, didn't love it when it originally release. Cinema was changing in 1992 and this movie seemed stuck in a time warp. 

Anupam Kher had his moments, Sridevi was lovely in it and Anil Kapoor and his hair were... abysmal. Even great actors - Anil Kapoor is easily one of the most versatile star-actors of all-time--can deliver less than par performances. Why even, Sridevi had her off-key films; Farishtay, Pathar ke Insan and even Naaka Bandi came right after Chandni and Chaalbaaz. To be so great in successive films and be termed repetative in the next three, even mighty Sridevi had to face the critics and accept the movies were not on par with her superhuman abilities as a superstar actress. 

Sridevi repeatedly proved she was the font of infinite talent, but the right director/producer had to tap into it.  Sridevi credited a film's success as the result of collective work, cinema needs great directors, writers, cinematography... no single phenomenon (and she certainly was one), can elevate a movie from blah to wah! 

Anyhoo, fortunately Sridevi's legacy will be an accumulation of her great work not the missteps by any measure.
