Released on 28 November 1986, when Sridevi was just 23, Nagina was the crowning glory of Sridevi's career in the Hindi film industry. Though she had several successful films before, mostly with Jeetendra, the credit mostly went elsewhere. With her stellar performance--and that finale dance!--Sridevi set the stage to announce she was here to stay. Even co-star Rishi Kapoor, despite being a veteran in the Hindi film industry, had to profess Sridevi was a bigger star who dominated all the publicity stills for the film. No one - not one industry pundit--foresaw the massive success the movie went on to become.
38 years of Nagina - lesser versions of the film have appeared on television and movies done by, quite frankly, lesser actors. There was an aura and magic to Sridevi that others have not replicated. They've tried to copy it... but nothing compares to the OG.
The costumes, the music, those lenses! Everything became iconic...
