Priyadarshan made my all-time favourite Malayalam film, Poochakkoru Mookkuthi in 1984 - his debut film as a director. At that time, Sridevi was 20, and already the biggest star of Bollywood. Her salary was greater than the entire budget of most of Priyan's earlier films in Kerala.
Remaking his own Malayalam films to Hindi, the ace director (who works quickly, and on budget - hint hint Boney Kapoor!), the man is in a league of his own currently and makes some of the funniest Indian films. As Sridevi was good in both comedies and dramas, so is this director - which makes it such a shame that the two, who both rose in the 1980s, never worked on a film together. The loss is theirs and ours; the audience's.
