Janhvi Kapoor is all smiles at Fashion Week, arriving with her elegant superstar mother.
Be it in beauty, talent, fashion, acting or dancing skills, youngling Janhvi will have to prove herself in her first film - every critic, cynic and troll will compare her, to her mother who proved herself repeatedly over a span of 266 films.
Second generation actors do not have it easy - the weight of expectation lands heavily on them but at least they have a smooth first foot in. Bollywood may encourage nepotism (a word that's been repeated ad nauseum), but the long list of failed second-gen actors is a mile long, from many an aborted launch; form Armaan Kohli to Zayed Khan, the children of Dev Anand and Manoj Kumar, all were launched with great fanfare - but couldn't sustain audience interest or box-office success. The nepotism argument is not only old hack, its tired and boring. Many children of doctors are doctors, of lawyers are lawyers. Ninety percent of businessmen have children who are businessmen. The statistics in Bollwood are nothing compared to the real world - minus the attention.
Far more exciting to see if they can hold their own - or surpass the legace of their previous generation. Kareena Kapoor is far more successful than Babita ever was. Kajol was always considered a top actress, more so than Tanuja was in her prime. Hrithik Roshan surpassed the boxoffice of Rakesh Roshan in leagues.
Now we wait to see if, by some miracle Janhvi will go even further than Sridevi did....
Doubtful.
But you never know...
Here's wishing Janhvi Kapoor all the best.
